Flimsy paperboard boxes have been around for a long time and, although they've lost some of their steam in recent years, still serve a useful purpose. Boxes that come in different shapes and sizes, from 3-inches thick all the way up to and including full-grown gooseberry, can protect products in transit from damage caused by water, moisture, or shock. And while many manufacturers make rigid boxes to go into vacuum cleaner bags, their real function is in other applications. Rigid boxes, which come in many standard sizes, also come in many custom sizes as well. Here are some examples.

Gift boxes and bag forms. Rigid box or bag styles come in many standard sizes and styles, and some, like the signature gift boxes from Samsonite, include a detachable padded shoulder strap. Most come in white with gold accents, but many are available in other colors, such as black and red. While gift boxes tend to be made of a very soft paperboard, some manufacturers have started making folding rigid boxes using materials like linen or canvas, which are much more durable.

Lids and tops. Many rigid boxes come in standard lid styles, either hinged (with magnetic closure), or flip-top. The flip-top style is particularly handy when it comes to storing and shipping gift boxes - simply flip the lid open and the box's contents will be at your fingertips. Magnetic boxes, on the other hand, can be opened using a magnetic closure and locked with a magnetic clasp.

Custom packaging solution. With the rise of e-commerce and the increasing demand for personalized products and services, manufacturers are creating more versatile and customizable rigid boxes. Some companies, for example, can design your product in any color and any material you'd like - whether it's thick cardboard or soft vinyl - and use it to ship supplies to your customers. Others can help create the perfect box that fits your product perfectly. And some companies are even creating machinery to make custom-designed rigid boxes.

Versatile packaging solution. Because they're rigid boxes, they can be used for just about everything you can imagine. Whether it's storing and shipping supplies, or creating a unique photo album, rigid boxes can be rolled up, unfolded, cut to size, and glued into place to create the perfect container. They can even be laminated to allow for long-term protection, or glued down to provide extra cushioning and stability for fragile items such as photographs or books.

Different textures and embossing. One of the unique features of luxury rigid boxes is their ability to be embossed with any type of special message. Special messages can include company logos, promotional designs, messages in different languages, and even short poems. These allow companies to choose from a variety of styles and message sizes. Because there are so many options available, companies will find that embossing is an easy and effective way to customize their packages.

Flexible packaging solutions. Another one of the features that sets rigid boxes apart from traditional products is their ability to be manufactured in a variety of different types. This includes a range of different types of boxes that are designed to meet different requirements. From thick, heavy-duty rigid boxes to lightweight, flexible options, there are a number of different types which can meet specific packaging requirements.

Easy maintenance. Perhaps the most important advantage of using rigid boxes is the ease of maintaining them over time. Because they're not glued down, there's no need to worry about creases in the packaging or chips in the packaging itself. A quick wipe with a damp cloth and a case lock makes it a simple process to maintain the look and feel of a product that has been packaged in this type of packaging for years.
